Career Break

GIS - Cover During A Career Break

In general individuals who elect to take a career break will cease to be Members of the Group Insurance Scheme, and cover will be lost.

For those who are going on a short term career break (less than 12 months), you can apply to the Group Insurance Trustees, via the Federation office, for continuation of cover for up to 12 months. There are restrictions on the reasons available for granting such cover.

On return to work you can re-apply to join the scheme, and this would be subject to medical underwriting. Re-admittance to the scheme cannot be guaranteed.
